Innovation Expert and Author Tom Kelley Closes Technology Services World 2009 Las Vegas

Nurturing Powerful, Creative Roles Help Technology Companies Build and Reinforce Unique Cultures of Innovation

SAN DIEGO, CA, October 21, 2009 – Tom Kelley, general manager, IDEO, delivered the closing keynote at Technology Services World (TSW) 2009 in Las Vegas, the industry's preeminent source of thought-provoking industry trends, learning, and peer networking in the services industry. TSW was hosted by newly announced Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), formed from the merger of AFSMI, SSPA, and TPSA, the three leading professional associations of the services and support industry. The merger was announced two days ago, on the opening day of TSW.

Kelley's presentation, “The Ten Faces of Innovation,” highlighted the meta-lessons his firm IDEO has learned from working with its worldwide technology clients on thousands of innovation programs. Kelley's talk centered on how adopting powerful, creative roles can make innovation personal in a way that yields renewed energy and improved agility for individuals, teams, and technical organizations.

Among these innovation roles are the Anthropologist, who finds new opportunities by observing how people interact with technology in their lives, and the Experience Architect, that person who relentlessly focuses on creating remarkable individual experiences. Kelley delivered insights into how nurturing those roles can help technology companies build and reinforce their own unique culture of innovation.

Kelley is one of the world’s most respected experts on managing innovation and design—how to make business more creative, not just in its products and services, but also in its thinking and processes. He is general manager of IDEO, the famous design and development firm that brought us the Apple mouse, the Palm V, and hundreds of other cutting-edge products, and was listed as number five in Fast Company’s list for 2008 of The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies. Kelley has been named the first-ever Executive Fellow by the dean of the Haas Business School at the University of California Berkeley and is the author of two outstanding books on innovation and creativity: The Art of Innovation and The Ten Faces of Innovation.

Kelley’s keynote rounded out the most powerful and vibrant TSW event to date. More information on TSW can be found at www.technologyservicesworld.com, the TSW blog at http://technologyservicesworld.com/blog, and the TSW photo gallery at www.flickr.com/photos/tswconference.
